A Message from the President
I am writing to you today to inform you that I will be stepping down as your president, as I am retiring from my position at the Special Narcotics Prosecutor. Vice President Jack Freck will assume the position on May 1, 2017.
As I leave office I could not be more optimistic about the direction of the union. We are witnessing a hiring boom in all offices again, the District Attorneys have collectively signaled a strong desire to recruit and retain younger detectives, and reward those who have been on the job for some time. We now work together to get things done.
The fact we have a strong contract, which provides us the same wage increases as other police groups, will be the foundation for future collective bargaining sessions. The dedication of the board, and you the member in this area has paid dividends.
Much has been accomplished over the past 15 years. First, and foremost the right to have a full release president for the first time, the 20-year pension, the enactment of our PERB bill, the Transit Authority again placing us back on the subway & buses, and the securing of the same pension benefits as other police and fire officers in the new pension plan show how a small union had a large impact in this City.
I am currently arranging a stop at each office with the new president so I can personally say goodbye and thank you for your support. I know you will all have the same support and confidence in Jack that you have shown for me.
Good Luck and be safe.
